I am Sam, a wife and Mummy of two children, and wayward cockerpoo called Mildred. We live in Harrogate in North Yorkshire, UK, and this is the story of me becoming a Thermomix Advisor.
We settled here after living and working as nurses in Australia, which is where I first heard about Thermomix. My husband and I travelled extensively before we had the children, and I draw lots of inspiration from these adventures and experiences abroad in my recipes.
I clearly remember hosting my first Thermomix demonstration in 2013 – purely to understand what everyone was talking about. I had no intention of spending over £1,000 on a kitchen device that I didn’t need. I could cook, after all!
But actually, now you mention it, it was extremely challenging to do so with a 1 and 2 year old attached to me and it didn’t feel very safe! And no, I had no time on my hands and was about to return to work. And yes, I absolutely wanted to avoid all the additives and cook healthy meals for my precious family.
The demonstration had such an impact on me, I even remember what we made over a decade later. The most deliciously smooth leek & potato soup, the quickest pizza bianca, a restaurant-quality mushroom risotto, some creamy lemon custard, an insane sorbet. With every dish, I sat there thinking “I know how much these ingredients cost me and it’s pennies compared to buying pre-made or eating out.” I also remember thinking of all the child wrangling and tidying up that could be done whilst the risotto was cooking and the time buying aspect had me sold.
The real adventure began when my TM31 arrived however. I began cooking things that I never thought possible before. I took on more technical dishes and my repertoire began to grow and I felt fulfilled knowing that I was getting more wholefoods and variety into my children. Incorporating more vegetables and achieving the textures that were acceptable to them was revelationary.
During a period of ill-health, I explored the importance of gut-health and completely eliminated gluten from my diet. This has provided invaluable experience for me when advising customers on “free-from” diets. Homemade food cooked from scratch will always taste better and provide more nutritional benefits (AND save you money!) I love knowing exactly what is in my food and how it’s been made.
Becoming a Thermomix advisor in 2015 was life-changing. I was able to leave my nursing profession once my business as a Team Leader was established and I love supporting a large and long-standing team of fantastic advisors. I have achieved diamond status for the third year running and I get lots of enjoyment from supporting and inspiring my customers via my Mammamix social media pages. I cherish the perks of being there for my family when they need me and never missing another Christmas Day or sports day.
When I’m not in the kitchen, I’m probably down the woods with my doggy, catching up with friends or planning a holiday. I also spend a large proportion of my time on my Peloton trying to negate the recipe testing – it’s a tough gig sometimes!
